Late winter gives way to spring

Late winter gives way to spring:

I love the bleakness of the beaches and lakes and bare trees, enclosed in a matt-white ether and sometimes mist and sometimes gleanings of frost.
Slowly it softens and brightens and colors beggin to appear, shapes get more defined and growths takes hold.

Foods were rich and heavy - pancakes, roasts, and then lighter - veg. soups, chops and sweeter heading for the fresher and freshest, sharp and brightest.

The end of last years stored produce - frozen gooseberries and black currants, chutneys, shriveled apples soaking up the lemon and mayonnaise in salads - being used up, time to plant the seeds for this years crops.
